Broken Bells might be a good place to dig! The Dirty Projectors were on that same work playlist, funny enough. Anthem for a Seventeen Year Old Girl was like, the song I played the most in college.
was there any Neutral Milk Hotel on it? This looks like the work of someone who loved some NMH. Maybe In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (song) or Holland, 1945?
2010 was a good year for Indie music...some songs from that year that might be on the playlist are: Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) - Arcade Fire, Sweetest Kill - Broken Social Scene, I can change - LCD Soundsystem...perhaps some Spoon or Interpol as well?
This is a good place to start – I feel like many of Sean's choices were def of this era but maybe a year back or two? I 100% went through Broken Social Scene's catalog once looking for a playlist song in the past but that might be worth revisiting.
A lot of the ones you’ve identified are stuff I was listening to, so on the off chance that this indicates some overlap in taste (plus some of these artists were in other bands as well), maybe check out (sorry I know there’s a lot):
Sunset Rubdown
Moonface
Magnolia Electric Company
Songs: Ohia
Uncle Tupelo
Son Volt
Alexi Murdoch
Damien Rice
Decemberists
Lucero
Okkervil River
Ryan Adams (if you still listen to him post metoo issues)
My Morning Jacket
Red House Painters
Sun Kil Moon
The xx
Airborne Toxic Event
Of Monsters and Men
The Head and the Heart
The Avett Brothers
The Civil Wars
The National
Bright Eye
the pillows
High and Mighty Color
And you know, Sufjan and R.E.M. and Radiohead. I think those go without saying.
I love this idea! Thank you for sharing your story about Sean with us, and the music he gave to people's lives.
Maybe some of these? Under Control (The Strokes), Where Does the Good Go? (Tegan & Sara), Creature Fear (Bon Iver), Keen on Boys (The Radio Dept.), Ceremony (New Order), and seconding Anthems for A Seventeen Year Old Girl.
Alison sounds familiar — but I'm not 100% sure. I feel like I might be falling into a category of "maybe" songs soon? I had a co-worker who listened to a ton of Slowdive around 2013 so now I'm doubting myself. I don't think Jesus and Mary Chain were on there, but that's the right direction.
I didn't include these because I'm not totally sure they're on the playlist, but here's some maybe songs:
Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Something from Painful album by Yo La Tengo
I think there's more Deerhunter, but I think Deerhunter was super popular at that moment so it's hard to tell what I would have been listening to in the cafe vs. the playlist
I think the St. Vincent / M83 / Blonde Redhead rabbit hole might be the right way to go
This is a great playlist, Ashley - well, you’ve got lots songs by artists (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Magnetic Fields, Asobi Seksu, M83, Deerhunter, St Vincent, Wolf Parade, Of Montreal, Talking Heads) that have been on my playlists, so plainly you guys had fabulous taste in music 😉
Some pre-2010 songs that I think fit the feeling of your list you could add, thinking you need to get to 69:
Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Love - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Shadowland - Youth Group
The Skyscraper Boast - Martian Memo To God
The One - The Like
Chosen One - The Concretes
Not Going Home - The Elected
Turn Out The Light - The Amsterdams
Awake My Soul - Mumford & Sons
When The Music’s Not Forgotten- Deadman
The Lakes of Canada - Jonathan Inc
Grazed Knees / Snow
Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens
Creation Lake - Silversun Pickups
Lived in Bars - Cat Power
Grazed Knees - Snow Patrol
When The Music’s Not Forgotten - Deadman
Awake My Soul - Mumford & Sons
The Lakes of Canada - Jonathan Inc
I And Love And You - Avett Bros
Terrified - Rainer Maria
The Valleys of New Orleans - The Veils
Dancing - Doveman
Blonde on Blonde - Nada Surf
Marching Bands of Manhattan- Death Cab for Cutie
Transatlanticism - Death Cab for Cutie
Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) - Arcade Fire
Lies (Rebellion) - Arcade Fire
Wake Up - Arcade Fire
Intervention - Arcade Fire
The District Sleeps Alone Tonight - Postal Service
Love this idea of crowdsourcing a long lost playlist.
I was thinking Broken Social Scene, too, as others suggested. Maybe Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl?
Other artist thoughts: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Broken Bells, Sun Kil Moon, Los Campesinos, Wilco, Stars, Dirty Projectors…

I don't think Neutral Milk Hotel was on there — but again, another good direction!
Neutral Milk Hotel! a must...

Thank you for posting. It means a lot to me.
Would add all of these :)

These are all superb suggestions!
Also clearly a shoegaze fan. What about Alison by Slowdive or Just Like Honey by The Jesus & Mary Chain?

Shoegaze deserves its rightful place :)

And Yo La Tengo always so lovely to this Jerz boy
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs acoustic version of Maps (released as ‘iTunes original’) one of my fave tracks of all time
