“Many would argue we have too much food. It’s extraordinary how wealthy we are!” and other real things senators said to the CEO accused of rampant union-busting.
I don't know in USA, but in Uruguay (South America) Starbucks pays minimum wage. And here you cannot even reach the 10th of each month with minimum wage.
Excellent summary! As a long time barista and now a unionized worker with a contract (not in coffee) it is perfectly legal for union members to hire a negotiator. It is a fairly normal practice just like unions hiring legal reps during contract negotiations.
Are you referring to my characterization? I'm sorry if I was unclear — Schultz seemed to imply that the person who suggested unionizing was somehow paid for by the union. He said that the person was hired by Sbux a year before union activity, but was paid to unionize the store. To me, it seemed like he was trying to undermine the intent of the union (like it was a "third party" agitator). I didn't mean to say that unions can't hire negotiators!
I misunderstood you. I understand what you wrote now.
Union busting CEOs (redundant construction) always say exactly this sort of thing…outside agitator.
As an “outside agitator” in a tenants union I can tell you that the tenants are always looking for far more radical solutions beyond what me an outside agitator presents.

Not sure why this is “an egregious accusation.”
