When I saw that ad I thought it was cheaper to pay $3 for customers to pick up their pizza than pay the drivers to deliver it ...

I love the "plot twists" of this article, how it puts tipping into context and in particular how you put into words two concepts I struggle with as a customer:

- "tipping is [...] designed to subjugate others": I hate tipping because I have the feeling I'm humiliating others, which I of course don't want to do, but I understand tips are necessary so I try to get over it as fast as possible.

- "tipping is [...] about how a person feels at the time": In the beginning someone told me tipping is discretionary and should be proportional to how well I was treated, but I learned how wrong this is and standardized my tips to avoid any bias.

I love this response! And I think it's important to engage with the dichotomy of tipping so we don't fall into a cognitive dissonant understanding of how tipping works.

ALSO tipping is SO SO SO subjective! It's barely about the person serving us and about how we, the consumer, feels at the time and take in the interaction they're having.
